Have you ever heard of the term cytokine? Some of you may recall uh-huh moment when you hear the word cytokine storm. It is an expression of cytokines, which are thought to be the cause of the severe disease in new coronary infections, blowing through the body like a storm. The cytokines at this time caused the body’s defense response to the infection to go into overdrive and even attack normal cells. As a result, it caused severe pneumonia and multiple organ damage, which was life-threatening. Cytokine therapy here is not about cytokines that do bad things to the body, but about cytokines that do good things to the body, i.e., reduce inflammatory responses and repair damaged tissues. Conventional regenerative treatment using cytokines is called PRP therapy. This treatment was performed on Shohei Ohtani, a Major Leaguer, when he had a ligament injury in his elbow. PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma and the Japanese translation is “Taketsushouban-Kesshou”.
